THANK YOU FOR VOTING
Our Egyptian Revival Gatehouse has welcomed Mount Auburn's visitors since the 1840s. Mount Auburn is participating in an online campaign to help us to preserve this important landmark for future generations of visitors.
Your votes may help us receive $100,000 to preserve our Egyptian Revival Gatehouse.
We are thrilled to announce that American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation selected Mount Auburn Cemetery to participate in the 2009 Partners in Preservation initiative. For five weeks Mount Auburn and 24 other sites in Greater Boston competed in an on-line contest for $1 million in preservation funding.
Congratulations to the Paragon Carousel.
Mount Auburn is still in the running for funding to be distributed amongst the remaining sites. Stay tuned for updates! With this funding Mount Auburn will be able to:
- Preserve and repoint the Quincy granite Gatehouse.
- Conserve and repair the original cast iron fences and gates on either side of the granite building.
- Rehabilitate the Gatehouse offices to create a welcome center at the Gatehouse and complement the offerings in our Visitors Center.
- Landscape the area surrounding the Gatehouse to create a fitting, beautiful and welcoming setting for Mount Auburn's 200,000 annual visitors.
