A Dynamic and Evolving Landscape

June 22, 2017

This walk elaborates on the theme of Sweet Auburn Magazine 2016. The issue describes four major periods in Mount Auburn’s Landscape Design. The changes in themselves reflect changing views of death and burial in the larger culture of their day. Included in the magazine are also biographies of the cemetery’s early landscape designers. Join docent, Rosemarie Smurzynski, in this Summer Sunday walk to see these changes either in archival materials or as remaining in the landscape now, and to meet the visionaries, like Jacob Bigelow and Oakes Ames, who helped shape them.
