COMMONWEALTH BALLET COMPANY was founded by Kathryn Anderson and Chip Morris in October 1992. The Acton-based Company has produced over 65 dance programs since its inception. The company has grown over the years to produce critically-acclaimed performances throughout Boston and Metro West. The CBC is a returning favorite at Glimpse. DOROTHY CHERRY is a native of Atlanta, GA and trained at the Decatur School of Ballet in Decatur, GA starting at the age of 4. During her four yours at Tri-Cities High School, where she was accepted into the Dance Magnet Program, she worked with Camille A. Brown, Juel Lane, Dawn Axam and Bridgette Moore. After graduating she received a scholarship to the Boston Conservatory where she worked with Danny Burcheski, Dwight Rhoden, Uri Sands, Darrell Moultrie and Andrea Miller; and Conservatory faculty Adrianna Suarez, Gemma Williams, Denise Pons, Tommy Neblett, Jimmy Viera, Donna Silva, and Leslie Woodies. She received her BFA in Dance at The Boston Conservatory in May 2016.
JENNIFER LIN attended the University of Hawai`i at Manoa where she earned a Master of Fine Arts. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Boston Conservatory where she now serves on the faculty. The author of Interstitial Space (University of Hawai`i, July 2011), Jennifer is a member of the Congress on Research in Dance and the Boston Dance Alliance.
Percussionist TAKI MASUKO left Osaka, Japan in 1979 to study improvisation and global folk music at the New England Conservatory. A much-lauded performer, dance accompanist, teacher, and music & movement clinician, Taki’s passion for twisting time and blending the old and borrowed with the bold and new fuels his international solo performances and collaborations with The Horse Flies (MCA/Rounder/PestControl), Tapestry, the Zamir Chorale, and Telltale Crossing, among others. www.takimasuko.com
MACKENZIE MATHIS holds a BFA in Contemporary Dance Performance, Ballet Emphasis from The Boston Conservatory, where she was a Conservatory Scholarship Recipient. She has danced in Archives/Etchings by Peter DiMuro, Swerve by Richard Colton, Rave by Karole Armitage, Autumn Ball by Uri Sands, Fandango by Danny Pelzig, Swing Concerto by Danny Buraczeski, A Little Love by Andrea Miller , Diane Et Acteon Restaged by Gianni Di Marco, and Ballad Unto by Dwight Rhoden. Her professional concert/commercial experience includes Armitage Gone! Dance, choreographed by Karole Armitage.
VOICES RISING, another returning Glimpse audience favorite is a women’s chorus, founded upon feminist principles of community, inclusivity, activism and education. Through our music, we strengthen ourselves and serve our community’s history, present needs and future possibilities. Zoé Dance has presented its work since 2002 in various venues and performance opportunities around Boston and internationally such as: World Music/CRASH Arts’ “Ten’s the Limit” (2005 and 2007); ArtBeat 2004 and 2009; “Virgin,” produced by the Dance Renewal Project; Harvard Square’s “May Fair” 2004; Earth Dance’s Outdoor Performance Festival 2003; Corporación Cultural de Las Condes (Santiago, Chile), 2007; and at Boston Center for the Arts’ Mils Gallery as a featured artist of the Movement at the Mills residency. Zoe has also presented its work in self-produced concerts at the Dance Complex, Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center and Tower Auditorium at Massachusetts College of Art, the Boston Common, Union Square Plaza, and Green Street Studios. Zoé Dance was awarded a project grant from the Somerville Arts Council (2010) as well as earning a Fellowship Grant (2013, 2016) and was a finalist for the Boston Dance Alliance’s Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship (2009). Most recently Zoe Dance was selected as one of three companies to participate in a month long residency retreat at the Boston Center for the Arts (May/June 2016). CALLIE CHAPMAN KORN holds a B.F.A. from the Boston Conservatory. In addtion to her work with Zoe Dance, she currently dances for Prometheus Dance and has worked with artists such as Nicola Hawkins, Karen Murphy and Emily Beattie. She has collaborated with video artists Greg Shea and Ken Kinna, composer Ivan Korn, and composers/musicians Pancho Molina and Billy Herron. Callie also helped develop the Dance Renewal Project and is currently the Marketing and Design Associate for the Boston Dance Alliance. She is also a freelance graphic designer (web + print). In 2009 she was a recipient of the Somerville Arts Council’s Artist Fellowship and in 2010 received a project grant to produce “Depart,” an evening-length performance in the center of Somerville’s Union Square that was free and open to the public. Her work has also received recognition as a finalist for the Boston Dance Alliance’s Rehearsal Residency Fellowship in 2009.
PAUL SCHAFFNER first encountered the hammered dulcimer as a somewhat marginal instrument within American traditional music. But with deep roots in musical traditions of Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and China, the dulcimer offers remarkable versatility. Over four decades, Paul has explored its potential, playing music of diverse cultures and multiple genres. He has performed throughout the Northeast, both solo and in ensembles ranging from 1 to 140 fellow musicians. He has recorded with several northern New England folk groups, and once performed in a live nationwide broadcast of Finland’s Kaustinen folk festival. Paul lives with his family in midcoast Maine, where he recently retired from the faculty of Bowdoin College and joined the tenor section of the Oratorio Chorale.
THE GROTON-DUNSTABLE REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHAMBER CHORUS, under the direction of Mr. Timothy Savoy, has performed at the 2012 summer Olympic in London England, Easter Sunday Mass in Padua Italy in 2014, throughout the USA, England, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic. Mr. Savoy is serving his 12th year as the Music Director of Chorus, Chamber Chorus, Concert Band, and Jazz Band at GDRHS in Groton MA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and Sociology Interdisciplinary Studies from Plymouth State College, a Post Baccalaureate in Music Education from Keene State College, a Masters of Education in Arts Education from Fitchburg State University, and a Certificate of Fine Arts Directing from Fitchburg State University. He has taught at the elementary, middle 16 years. He conducted and directed the Piano Monsters Concert for the Southern New Hampshire Community School of the Arts. LOUISE GRASMERE‘s sound is wholly her own – a unique fusion of jazz-influenced rhythm and blues seasoned with motown, gospel and soul. Think Bonnie Raitt laced with the smooth landscapes of Joni Mitchell, the imaginative improvisations of Ella Fitzgerald, and the gritty authenticity of Big Mama Thornton. Louise’s sound is compelling, haunting at times, angry, powerful, full of love and passion and always deeply real.
MIKE BRUN is a composer, arranger, and performer known for the wide range of his projects. His theater credits include: Music Director/ Onstage Musician for Mr. Burns (Playwrights Horizons); Co-arranger/ Onstage Musician for Twelfth Night (The Delacorte); Music Director/ Arranger/ Onstage Musician for Tumacho (Wild Project); Co-arranger/ Onstage Musician for Old Hats (Signature); Music Director/ Arranger/ Onstage Musician for I’M A LOT LIKE YOU (Red Room). He is a 2016 commissioned artist at Ars Nova, where he is developing Bull’s Hollow with frequent collaborators Jaclyn Backhaus and Andrew Neisler. MARY BICHNER is an orchestral classical-meets-pop composer with the bizarre musical superpowers of perfect pitch (the ability to recognize notes and chords by name upon hearing them played) and synesthesia (a neurological condition that causes Mary to “see” splashes of specific colors when she hears their corresponding pitches sounded). Called a “musical genius” by CBS News, and invited to Harvard University’s prestigious neuroscience lab to be studied for her brain’s unusual wiring, Mary creates richly-colored compositions that delight classical enthusiasts and indiepop rockers alike. Current collaborations include a two-year composer residency at Mount Auburn Cemetery during which she will compose ten new works inspired by Mount Auburn’s breathtaking landscape and landmarks, and use her sound-to-color synesthesia to select the musical components that best “match” the natural color palette of each location. Past collaborations include composer-in-residence at Marble House Project of Dorset VT for May 2015, arranging and conducting strings for 30 Seconds to Mars’MTV Unplugged appearance, collaborations with the Vitamin String Quartet , composer and music director for Wheelock Theatre [AEA]’s original stage adaptation of Pinocchio, and more. MAX JUDELSON is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music where he studied bass with Benjamin Levy. While in Boston, Max regularly performed at Massachusetts General Hospital where he developed a music program for patients, families and staff. His article,“Ten Rules for Street Musicians” was published in The Wall Street Journal (on-line) and was interviewed for NPR’s “Talk of the Nation” addressing the same topic. Max now lives in Berkeley, CA where he works with numerous artists including, Christian Burns and and Oouroboros Shadow Pictures. MICHE BRADEN is a singer, actor, musician, songwriter, arranger, and musical director. She is was an Artist in Residence with the Detroit Council of the Arts; the founder and former lead singer of Straight Ahead (women‘s jazz band); and a protégé of Motown musicians Thomas “Beans” Bowles, Earl Van Dyke (leader of The Funk Brothers), and jazz master composer Harold McKinney. She has appeared in and served as musical director/arranger in The People’s Temple, Gee’s Bend, The Bluest Eye, and Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. Her most recent vehicle is The Devil’s Music: The Life & Blues of Bessie Smith (TDM). In Bessie, she is co-collaborator with Joe Brancato and Angelo Parra (Director and Playwright) serving as Musical Director, Arranger, & Composer for the past 16 years. For The Devil’s Music, she has been nominated for the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel Carbonell, Off Broadway Alliance, Audelco, and Connecticut Critics Awards. Miche was a member of the band Rough Magic in 3 productions of the critically acclaimed play The Tempest, an A. R. T. production directed and conceived by Teller & Aaron Posner that debuted in Las Vegas. She also served as Musical Director for the South Coast Repertory production in Costa Mesa, CA, earning her an LA Critics Nomination. She did vocal arrangements for the Spike Lee Joint Da Sweet Blood of Jesus. Her international credits include Gone With The Wind and The Devil’s Music at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Center, The Damian Foundation Gospels For Life tour thru Belgium and Northern France; and several jazz and concert venues thru out Japan and England. As a singer, Miche has shared the stage with Regina Carter, Alexis P. Suter, Milt Hinton, Lionel Hampton, Frenchie Davis, and Byron Stripling. Her fabulous week-long gig with Byron’s Columbus Jazz Orchestra garnered her a feature in Pops Conductor/Arranger Jeff Tyzik’s Return to the Cotton Club production with Byron & Ted Louis Levy. She is featured on James Carter recordings Gardenia’s For Lady Day and At The Crossroads and has performed with him at Carnegie Hall as well as the Newport and Montreal Jazz Festivals. She’s also a YouTube sensation with 7 Million+ views in PostModern Jukebox’s “Sweet Child o Mine” and provides the voice for “Tainted Love” in the Bio Shock Infinite game. Her performance is forever dedicated to the memory of her Mother, Dr. Mildred J. Dobey, her first music influence.

DENISE PONS, Artistic Director and Choreographer, has been a professional ballet dancer and dance instructor for over 25 years. Her professional career ranges from the San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet for 14 seasons, and a founding cast member of the White Oaks Dance Project with Mark Morris and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Her teaching career began in 1981 with the Boston Ballet and has continued to this day, with numerous companies and programs, including the Walnut Hill School and since 1994 with The Boston Conservatory. She toured America and Europe with Rudolf Nureyev in Don Quixote, performing lead roles of Kitri, Kitri’s Friend and Street Dancer. She also was directed by Agnes de Mille in Rodeo, performing the role of Cowgirl. During her career, in addition to Nureyev, Ms. Pons has partnered with dance luminaries Eric Bruhn, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Fernando Bujones, Patrick Armand and Simon Dow. She has studied with and been choreographed by: Agnes de Mille, Maurice Bejart, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Elisa Montes, David Bintley, Natalia Dudinskaya (“the glasnost Swan Lake”), Niels Bjorn Larson and Natalia Karassanova. Ms. Pons has taught extensively throughout the country. Her background includes Vaganova and Cecchetti techniques, extensive training in tap, jazz, flamenco, and modern dance. She has been a frequent guest artist for Dance Masters of America, the dance faculty of Harvard Dance, the Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education, and is currently on the faculty of The Boston Conservatory Dance Division, and the Acton School of Ballet.
NATE TUCKER, Music Director and Composer, was recently featured in American Repertory Theater’s (A.R.T.) The Tempest as on stage musician performing in a 4 piece band of all Tom Waits music. Also at the A.R.T., he has performed in Finding Neverland (music by Elliot Kennedy and Gary Barlow) and Natasha, Pierre, and the Comet of 1812, an adaptation of War and Peace by Dave Malloy. Mr. Tucker is the Music Director and Composer for Mount Auburn Cemetery’s A Glimpse Beyond and can be heard performing with the world-renowned contemporary music ensemble, Juventas, as core percussionist, and with pop and world music groups including Flamenco Boston. As a composer Mr. Tucker’s interests are in exploring the gap between contemporary, pop and world music. Mr. Tucker released his first full-length album Off Grid, on September 2015, at Boston Center for the Arts. Mr. Tucker was commissioned to compose and sound design scores for FINISH LINE: the Untold Stories of the 2013 Boston Marathon and Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing with The Boston Theater Company. www.NateTuckerMusic.com
