First Interment made at Mount Auburn

June 23, 2016

On July 6, 1832 the first interment in Mount Auburn’s original 72 acres was made near the top of Mount Auburn’s peak (Lot 182 Mountain Avenue).  James and Margaret Boyd buried their stillborn son Charles in their family lot.  It was their third child lost in 10 years.  In all, the Boyd family buried five children here.

The monument for Hannah Adams  (Lot 180 Central Avenue) incorrectly boasts that Adams is the first tenant of Mount Auburn– she is actually the ninth but hers was the first grave to have a monument.
