Longfellow and the Legacy of the Dante Club
Each February, the Friends of Mount Auburn and the Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site co-sponsor an event to honor the life and legacy of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. For the 2012 program, held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Story Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery, rare book librarian and independent scholar Christian Dupont joined us to discuss Longfellow’s contributions to the study of Dante. Mr. Dupont has published extensively on reading and collecting Dante in America. His essays and catalogues on Longfellow and Dante appear in Dante Studies.
The 2012 Longfellow Birthday Celebration was co-sponsored by the Friends of Mount Auburn, the Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site, the Friends of the Longfellow House, and The Dante Society of America.
