Mount Auburn Cemetery’s Curator of Historical Collections, Meg Winslow discusses the Binney Monument at Bigelow Chapel, during the “Toasting A Treasure” event. The event held in April 2015 celebrated the completed conservation of the large marble monument to Amos Binney. Designated a National Treasure and considered by many to be the most important work of funerary art of its time, the large marble monument to Binney was carved in Italy by Thomas Crawford in 1847.
