Mount Auburn Cemetery Underground Railroad
The Underground Railroad was just one of many paths to freedom for enslaved African-Americans in antebellum America, but it played an important role in galvanizing support for the abolition movement. In honor of Juneteenth, volunteer docent Steve Pinkerton will conduct a walking tour of Mount Auburn Cemetery’s Underground Railroad connections and review the activities of key operators, black and white, at its Boston terminus.
Funding for programs has been provided in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
