Mount Auburn Cemetery’s Civil Rights Legacy

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, volunteer docentStephen Pinkerton will review the legacies of ground-breaking civil rights litigants and jurists buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery. Notables include Benjamin Roberts, plaintiff, first known U. S. public school desegregation suit; Supreme Court Justices Joseph Story (ruling, Amistad Case) and Benjamin R. Curtis (dissent, Dred Scott Decision); and early NAACP lawyers Clement Morgan and William H. Lewis. Weather permitting, the presentation in Story Chapel will be followed by a short walking tour.
