Nyssa Path is Developed

December 10, 2011

Nyssa Path was designed by Wellington Reiter of Urban Instruments. This contemporary memorial connects numerous historical elements found within Mount Auburn while providing a modern-day setting for the memory of loved ones.  Evoking other linear landscape installations by contemporary artists, a hinged granite bar connects two adjacent paths which bracket the site. A pair of pyramid forms serve as primary spaces for contemplation, a modern response to the wings of a nearby marble angel sculpture from the 19th century. Two inscriptions from Joseph Story’s Consecration address are inscribed on the memorial.
