Listen to Artist-in-Residence Ira Klein’s The Oak Cycle

November 3, 2022

As Artist-in-Residence at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA, Klein has composed and produced The Oak Cycle, a meditative suite of instrumental guitar music inspired by the historic oak trees in the cemetery.

The Oak Cycle brings together ethereal solo guitar pieces inspired by folk and jazz with captivating, abstract visuals rooted in the majestic natural environment of the cemetery. The result is an immersive, lyrical, and haunting experience, celebrating America’s most iconic tree.

Ira Klein is an award-winning composer and guitarist, originally from Jerusalem, Israel, and currently based in Cambridge, MA. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Klein has performed at Mass MOCA, Harvard University, Rockwood Music Hall (NY), and Red Sea Jazz Festival (Israel). Fascinated by American and Middle-Eastern folk traditions, Ira is currently a 2022-2024 Mass Cultural Council Traditional Arts Apprentice, working with acoustic blues master Paul Rishell. He is part of a collaborative American folk trio with vocalist/bassist Hazel Royer and guitarist Kevin Barry (Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash), and leads Convivencia, a Jewish-Sepharadic music ensemble bringing together musicians from Israel, Iran, Cyprus, Greece, and the U.S.
