Mount Auburn offers a variety of conventional casket, natural burial, and cremation graves. These carefully selected locations are designed to be lasting, perpetual places for families and friends to celebrate the lives of those they come to visit in a serene and beautiful landscape. Options for commemoration without burial are also available.

Mount Auburn's end-of-life services are available to anyone regardless of burial space ownership. Learn more about our how you can host a private event, utilize our cremation services, or secure non-burial memorialization within our landscape.

Mount Auburn’s two historic chapels are available for a wide range of private functions from memorial services and celebrations of life to receptions following a service or burial.  In addition to indoor events, the lawn outside Bigelow Chapel along with Asa Gray Garden and Hazel Dell, just a short walk from Story Chapel, are warm-weather options for outdoor ceremonies and receptions.

Mount Auburn made history at the turn of the 20th century when it became the first cemetery in New England to operate a crematory. The Cemetery's first cremation took place on April 18, 1900. In the succeeding years, more than 70,000 cremations have been performed. Today, the Cemetery performs 1,250 cremations each year.

Special Proprietors' Meeting

Special Proprietors' Meeting

Mount Auburn Cemetery will hold a Special Meeting of its Proprietors on July 17, 2024 at 6PM to enact Restated Articles of Organization. The Restated Articles will replace the Cemetery’s existing legislative Special Acts. Learn more about the meeting and, if eligible, register to attend or vote by proxy.
